in the not-so-distant past, I was an up-and-coming college co-ed with big dreams about being a career professional making tons of money.  And for awhile, I did that, putting in hours and hours of overtime while my bank account grew.

Then I had a baby and that changed everything. J

First off, I cut back on working long hours, no longer really into that lifestyle.  I felt an instinctual urge to actually stay at home with my sweetest little baby girl!

Then, I really became hooked into forming that mother-child dyad that all the baby books talk about.  It was fun and so special!  I tenderly nursed my baby lying so close to me. 

Then Baby Micah suddenly (at least it seemed to me!) became Crawler Micah.  My, the time does fly with a baby although sometimes certain moments seem to last forever, (such as mealtime with a very picky eater!)  Another maternal instinct screamed out to me, “You gotta baby-proof this house!”  And that I did, with a vengeance. Kitchen, bathroom, living room: all secured down and made safe from exploring hands and unsure feet just trying out their limits for the first time.  But after hundreds of hours researching ways to baby-proof and carefully selecting home safety products from the thousands available today, I was finally satisfied that I’d covered everything.

Later on, (too late, in fact!), I began to wear her in a sling, close to my heart, building the foundations of our bond for a lifetime.  At sixteen months, she’s still enjoying rides on mommy comfortably folded into her sling.  I’ve become a real advocate of slings because of the closeness they afford to mom and baby.  I offer my favorite style here at Micah & Co. with more styles coming soon.

My baby changed me in other major ways, too.  Me, an expert at organization who has to have everything “just so,” (in other words, me, the neat-freak, as my hubby sometimes lovingly calls me), began to smile at toys everywhere, food particles on the floor, and fingerprints on the walls.  It was ok!  It was life with a baby, lived so sweetly moment by precious moment.

I found during those early days with a baby that I had lots of questions but not many answers.  My friends experiencing the same things were a big help.  Our relationships have matured now as new mothers and we’ve all discovered the importance of support groups as well as playgroups.
